Loot Drops When Farming Instances

This weekends’ runs were interesting in terms of loot drops.

I took my 49 warrior in to Wailing Caverns with a 18 or 19 Shaman and while I was cleaning out the path to the instance doorway while they were far away gathering quests, I picked up no less than SIX Bind On Equip green items. Then we went into the instance, went all the way through killing all the Fang bosses and the big dude and then coming back to wake Naralex (or whatever) and at the end of the run I had SIXTEEN BOE greens to sell. The shaman had 10 BOE greens to sell and had also needed on 2-3 blue items that dropped which he immediately used as upgrades on current equipment.

When I farm through WC by myself with my 60-62 hunter, no way that much drops. I haven’t tested it with this under-60 warrior however.

Then, the 60 Hunter took my 32 mage through RFK and again the drops were insane, we came out with 10 or so BOE greens each.

Then, my 62 Hunter took his 32 warlock through RFK later in the day, and the drops were COMPLETELY SPARSE. I came out with 2 BOE greens to sell and my partner didn’t come out with much more than that.

I have noticed, however, that dungeons such as RFC, WC, Deadmines and the likes all have a LOT of BOE greens that drop, and the number of uncommon+ things that drop in higher dungeons isn’t near as much. Is this Blizzard’s attempt to addict us early and then give us diminishing returns with occasional rewards to quell our junkiness??!!

yup - you’ve nailed it. Blizzard’s goon squad will be at your door with their persuasion sticks to keep you from telling too many folks about this new knowledge you’ve gained though - so beware!

I so feel your pain Val..

I do a standard every couple days stockades run for funds for my toons.. it’s just how I raise money (and consequently, tailoring/firstaid from the cloth drops).

Last night I made out like a friggin THIEF. I have 3 14 slot bags plus the backpack.. I had a total of 4 grey items, 2 stacks of 20 wool, and 2 stacks of 20 linen.. and the rest were all greens.. not great.. but good. and.. wait for it.. 2 blues. GREAT blue’s. They are warrior fare, and not stuff I would use except if my main was closer to the 20’s.. instead of the 50’s.. Auctioneer addon told me that one was conservatively priced at about 15g.. thats just one. Typically I price my stuff the way I want it.. and if its something I REALLY want for one of my toons I post it in there high.. and if someone else wants it that bad.. they can have it. My scheme usually nets me some DE stuff from my enchanter (unsold items = enchants!!).. and the rest usually nets me.. 8-12g. I know ppl that run stocks that call that chump change.. but thats my average.. I am looking, if this stuff sells, at getting min 40g.. maximum 80g from last night. I may need to get a banking toon now, maybe a warrior.. .since I don’t really like playing warriors much, that’ll keep him out of play and more of a bank toon. (my last bank toon was my lock.. who is now my main-alt).. and ROCKING.. check him out mcgoo on medivh.. He’s not uber.. but I spank fools in WSG.. If I am in a group with another lock I usually annihilate ppl.. I am spec’ed to do this because I’m an affliction lock.

oh well, more WoW tonight!!
and if you ever roll one on medivh give me a shout!

Well I think I have an answer for you. In my opinion there are two good reasons greens drop like its christmas in lower
lvl dungeons as opposed to the sparse greens in higher dungeons. The first reason I can think of is the diversity of
instances you have at higher lvls. Certain higher dungeons are better for certain classes than other. When you come to
the lower instances, blizzard has to cram items for all the classes into a very select few dungeons. The second reason
being has to do with the value of the items you find ie what they can disenchant to or sell to a vendor. If you got the
same amount of items in Scholo or Mara or something like that as you did in VC, then the value of all the items that lvl
would decrease as well as the disenchanted materials due to the abundance that they would be in. That’s just my two sense
though. I do also agree about the hooking you on there game though thru enticements such as that hehe. Goodluck.
