Warrior Hating The 50s…

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in My Mage, My Priest, My Warrior, World of Warcraft

My Warrior is sitting at level 57 and … just sitting there.

Half of my quest log is BRD and BRS quests, I think I should just ditch them, as I don’t have enough interest in seriously doing much in the way of PUGs, and I’d probably be better picking up some green quests from areas i skipped over.

Farming is definitely a lot more painful with this toon as well - I’m not sure if it’s just because I’ve got a 60+ Hunter I’m comparing it to, or if it’s because I’m too far into Protection spec for my own good and that’s finally coming to light after all these levels.

So, maybe I should go Fury again, with some basics in Prot (like, Tactical Mastery for stance dancing) and just worry about the whole solo game. My personality and play style doesn’t lean towards being much of a reliable Tank type anyway.

That having been said, I’m quite enjoying the 40s with my Mage, and he’s coming along quite well, approaching 44. My Priest, however, is still sitting at 35, however - again, soloing isn’t as effective or fun on this toon as it is with my Mage and Hunter.

I guess that’s to be expected…

A couple of entries ago, I talked about my recent go at bank cleaning for all of my toons.

Well, I’m still not completely cleaned up from that effort. My 63 Hunter Enchanter is still overloaded with Enchanting mats, my 42 Hunter Alchemist has way too many herbs laying around, and my storage Bank toon is a complete, disorganized mess who still has over 50 items sitting in the mailbox that she can’t take out because she’s out of room.

So, this afternoon when I get home from work, after I log into my AH bank toon to re-cycle my listings and add cash to my coffers from things that sold from last night’s listings, I’m going to do some serious housecleaning on my storage bank toon and my 63 Hunter Enchanter. At the end of this evening, there are going to be a lot of auctions up in the Horde-side Zul’jin Auction House from yours truly.

Actually, last night I started the process of Auctioning off things from my storage bank toon, so this afternoon when I login, I expect there’ll be some nice cash in the mail for me to pick up. Thankfully newest stuff appears at the beginning of your mail list and not at the end, or I wouldn’t be picking up that cash until I auction off more things and can get more stuff out of the mail.

Oh, so yah, for those who don’t do this mass-mail thing, the mailbox shows a maximum of 50 messages at a time, and until you remove/delete/deal with some of those items, you can’t see what’s “after” it in the mailbox. When I’m doing bank and bag maintenance, sometimes I’ll have 150-250 items sent to my bank toons, which means a lot of trips between the Bank, the Mailbox and the Auction House on that bank toon.

It’s all worth it, tho - my main toons don’t have to go into the cities except to train up professions and class skills, and it’s a huge load off my mind in planning my travels and questing routes.

At any rate, I’m sure I have at least 300g worth of stuff to put up for sale tonight. And while I generally hesitate to let on how much total cash I have as a way to avoid being begged/tempting the hacker fates, I feel proud in stating that my coffers will top 2.5k gold with my estimated sales.

Back here at the end of January is the last time I talked about the cash I had, and it was right after I drained all I had from all of my toons in order to powerlevel my Blacksmithing Warrior through the mid-200s Armorsmithing quests that need insane amounts of Mithril.

Since then, I have, however, talked about my “first 500g+ purchase” where I bought my Epic Land Mount for my Hunter, two weeks into February… and of course there’s the entry mentioning some of the costs associated with powerlevelling Jewelcrafting and Tailoring to 280 as well.

So all in all, despite my powerlevelling and (semi-)expensive Mount training, I’m still doing quite well in the cash department.

Power to the Forsaken! (pumps arms)

I’ve been feeling somewhat bored in the past little while, not really wanting to get ready to go out and grind solo on quests while my guild friends are still at work, so I’ve quietly putzed around and made some changes/advancements to my professions on my toons:

  • 63 Hunter drops Leatherworking and picks up Herbalism, then levels it to 300+ in a couple days of running around Azeroth on my epic mount.
  • 24 Rogue drops Herbalism and picks up Leatherworking to go with his already-present Skinning skill
  • 42 Mage skills up fishing from 80 - 180, then drops Mining and picks up Skinning, grinding up to 175 in a few hours spread over a couple of days
  • 16 Druid levels cooking from 80 to 225
  • 35 Priest levels cooking from 200 to 275

Levelling skinning on my Mage has been surprisingly fun, as has raising my fishing skill been, and both for the same reasons: I’m going into areas I’m highly overpowered for and anything that dares challenge me is downed in the magicks of ice, fire and arcane.

Respec’d to Frost, Decent For Skinning Grinding

Knowing I would be doing a lot of skinning, I decided to spec away from my Presence of Mind-levelled Arcane spec and this time I went completely into Frost. My impression of this so far is that it’s great! The points in frost wind up slowing down my opponent more when I fire off my Frostbolt (compared to the old spec), and I notice that my Arcane Missiles and Fire blast don’t hit for any less than they did when I had more points in their trees, so the result is this:

Mob is slower in approaching me, meaning my Arcane Missiles don’t get interrupted because I don’t get hit, and despite having all my points in Frost-related things, Arcane and Fire things still hit nice and hard in terms of damage.

Right now I’ve skilled up my Skinning far enough that I can skin up to level 38 or so, so my views about how effective Frost is in general for my mainly PvE mage remains to be fully examined, but so far I’m liking it, for sure.

Self-sufficiency To The Max

The main reason why I made some of these Professions switches with toons over level 35 was to improve my self-sufficiency and money-making ability. I find myself not really interested in buying herbs and skins from the Auction House, partially due to the costs but mostly due to the availability. It’s so much easier if I have the gathering profession myself, and simply make use of my bank and storage toons to hold the materials until I decide to mass-mail them to the toon with the appropriate production profession.

Ultimately, cash isn’t the main reason for this, but I do expect that my cash reserves will do well and keep growing over time, and being able to buy things like Epic Land Mount training for all my toons as they hit 60 will be no problem.

Flying Mount Training? I’m not sure about that, but frankly, by the time I start getting toons to 70, I just might have a whole wad of cash laying in the coffers. I’ve already got a pretty decent nest-egg from which sending 200g to a toon that just hit 35 and wants to level professions with AH-bought materials isn’t painful at all.

Just like real life, I don’t tend to spend very much cash on the game, and instead tend to gather it. Unlike real life, however, I can actually go for a few weeks in game without doing anything more than Auction House work (ie: no farming, etc) and STILL earn a whole whack of cash. I wish I could figure out how to do that IRL without spending a huge amount of time educating myself first…
