First Blood Relative Joins World of Warcraft
So, my (older) brother has finally downloaded the 10 day free trial version of WoW and has created his first toon on my realm.
Of course, when we go to actually play for a few minutes before going out, the Authentication server is under emergency maintenance, so while I got logged in, 10 minutes later when he tried, it didn't work.
Ah well. At least he wasn't introduced to the game at Christmastime when the servers really weren't ready for the load that was about to be introduced, like when I joined back in December 2005. The downtime back then, nevermind the queues, was something wicked to reckon even for a burgeoning addict!
It'll be nice to have my brother on the game, although I don't expect we'll get great lots of time to play together for many reasons, including the fact that he has a steep learning curve to get to the "intermediate" knowledge phase I consider myself to be at. But also, he works a lot on his own business ideas and WoW is just another part of his income stream (through blogging and advertisement space sales) so while he'll play, he'll spend more than the time played, working on his WoW blog.
Once there's something there of use I'll post a link to it for anyone interested in checking it out.
But for now I have to go, as we've got an engagement to attend to while he visits.

That's cool to have a family member playing with you. Although that's not the case for me, my guild is composed of RL friends and relatives. Just a little anecdote: I was at my neighbor's (who got me into WoW) for a birthday party and his family and wife's family were there. In the basement there were two desktops and four laptops with all the kids playing. Quite a way to bring family together.
