Maximum guild size in World of Warcraft

Another common question asked on Blizzard's Guild Relations forum is about how many people can be in a guild.
The simple answer is 500.
The slightly less simple answer is "over 500, but at the 501st member, the Guild Roster interface doesn't show all members anymore".
Once the interface is no longer completely accurate, guild members and officers will need to use the command line for things such as promotion (/gpromote), demotion (/gdemote) and removal (/gkick) of members they cannot access through the /groster interface itself.
