Metzen The Reindeer is a special mob available during the Winter Veil celebration on World of Warcraft.

The Story About Metzen

Apparently, Metzen was Reindeer-napped and is being held hostage with some magic spell held over him that you, the adventurer, are given a pouch of dust to negate, freeing Metzen from his bonds.

Where I Found Metzen The Reindeer

Well, first I looked in Thottbot, and then I ventured out on my own to see if his reported location had changed since last year.

Where To Find Metzen the Reindeer

It hadn’t. He’s still found in Searing Gorge (most easily reached by the Kargath/Badlands flight path for Horde) and I was standing at 68,34 when I talked to Metzen and selected the only selectable option which said something about sprinkling the dust over him.

The Rewards For Freeing Metzen The Reindeer

The main reward for freeing Metzen is the 5-stack of Preserved Holly that a player gets, but from there a repeatable quest is unlocked where the player can turn in Deeprock Salt for more Preserved Holly.

Preserved Holly is, of course, that which is used to “morph” your existing mount into a Reindeer Mount for a while.

Stock up while you can! I was selling that stuff for 5g a pop all through September and October!

About a month ago, I went through Botanica with what turned out to be a guild group, save me.

The run worked out great - I got my Master of Potions quest done and when we slipped up and wiped on a boss later in the instance, they reset the instance and we went through the entire thing again to try to get a Tailoring recipe for one of their guildies. (it didn’t drop)

The other Frost Mage in the group kept in contact with me and since then we’ve exchanged favors in joining each other’s groups for regulars (kara key chain part 2 and 3), 2 of my 5 heroics, and even a group quest in Shadowmoon Valley.

Then, on Friday night, I got a chance to go into Karazhan with this guild’s “alts” run which included 3-4 of us from outside of the guild itself.

I’m proud to say that we got through two bosses and all that trash before I had a single death. We went through 5 or 6 bosses (started at the back door with Curator, I guess they had been in earlier) and I died only 3 times.

I have the WWS parse, I’ll post the URL some time.

For now I have to go shopping!

(and GASP I can’t believe I beat you into Kara, Rizzo!!)

How To Become An Elf Santa

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in Adventures In Azeroth

Two Red Elf Santas Riding The Zeppelin

Winter Veil event is here, and you’ve seen them scurrying around, getting underfoot everywhere - Elf Santas!

Now, to you Alliance folk who regularly have Gnomes running around, this is nothing spectacular, and a resourceful Gnome could probably find a near-complete Santa suit to dress up like an Elf Santa all year long, but us Horde folk need to revel in the one time of year that we can run around and be smaller than a Peacebloom.

How To Become An Elf Santa

How To Become A Red or Green Elf Santa

Near the Zeppelin outside of either Orgrimmar or Undercity, there’s a bright, glowing Gnome Engineer teleporter station that seems to be emitting a small snow squall of it’s own, right there onto the non-snowy ground.

Run up on the pad, and you’ll be TRANSMOGRIFIED into either a Green Elf Santa or a Red Elf Santa at random.

How To Become A Red Elf Santa

Follow the instructions above. If you are turned into a Green Elf Santa, run off of the pad and back onto the pad and it’ll re-buff you with the Santa buff, again choosing either Red or Green at random.

If you stay Green when you hit the pad, back up and try again, knowing that the game had changed you into a Green Elf Santa again that time.

Keep trying until you’re a Red Elf Santa (or Green Elf Santa if that’s the one YOU really want to be).
