Mount Speed Enhancer Carrot On A Stick a “World Drop”?

Add Comment |

Wow.

I know something Thottbot doesn’t know.

Of course, I know it just means that the people who use the Thottbot addon to help Thottbot keep their databases up-to-date, etc, haven’t seen this particular “world drop” outside of where we all used to get it, but still…

What’s This Trinket For?

The [Carrot on a Stick] trinket is a simple trinket - all it does is increase the speed of your riding mount slightly, making it so your travels are a wee bit faster than those without any speed improvements for their mount.

It’s meant for players below the level of 68, when the [Riding Crop] takes over your trinket slot for mount-speed enhancement.

Why’s This Such A Shock It’s A World Drop?

Well, first and foremost, this trinket used to only be available, as far as I am aware, by going all the way through Zul’Farrak and ringing the gong at the end of the instance to summon and terminate Gahz’rilla.

Zul’Farrak is a dungeon instance that players venture into through the zone of Tanaris, and normally players are in their low-to-mid 40s when they first start getting into non-friend, non-guild PUGs to take on the place. With friends, one can gain access before 40, but since many of the mobs are in their mid-40s unless you have a good escort, someone that low will die repeatedly from pulling aggro from across the room.

It normally takes an hour or more to progress through the instance, even if you’re getting a run-through from a decently-geared friend.

Secondly, Thottbot doesn’t have any information about what world mobs might drop the trinket. All that’s mentioned there is the Zul’Farrak quest mentioned above.

How Do I Know It’s A World Drop?

I’m psycho! Er… Psychic! ;)

But seriously - my father mentioned the Carrot briefly while we played together the other night, and I had to get him to clarify to me what exactly he was talking about, because I KNEW he had never set foot in any dungeon instance on the game (on 56k and a slow computer, it would be frustrating).

And it’s true! He’s got the Carrot on a Stick!

Of course, he doesn’t remember where he was when he got the drop, so I can’t be any help in that direction… but it’s out there!

Has anyone else run across this who might know where the drop came from?

From what I remember you get it from a quest in the area north of Un Goro. I think its called the salt flats or something like that. Not a drop.

I got my carrott on a stick from the salt flats north of Tarnasis by completing a chain quest from the goblins there. It might have been the dwarf chain quest, either way, the two are fairly closely related / link as far as where you need to be to complete them. Maybe that’s where you dad got his?

The quest in the Salt Flats north of Tanaris tells you to go to Zul’Farrak and kill Gahz’rilla and come back with a scale of hers to prove of her death.

Then you get the Carrot on the Stick.

However, I know my father hasn’t gone into ZF, and he’s got that Carrot on a Stick, so there’s got to be some other source.

It’s possible it came from another quest, but Thottbot only lists the one source of Zul’Farrak.

Not sure, but according to wowdb.com, there’s the Carrot on a Stick quest reward (the one you get from completing the Ghaz’rilla quest) and then they have listed “Carrot on a Stick - Junk”

No idea what it means, but it would appear there’s other ways of getting Carrot on a Stick (though I think the quest is still the easiest route to go, in terms of saving time) :)

It’s pretty neat to know you can get it elsewhere, even as a world drop :O Must be a very low drop rate though!

Yeah I can say I have only heard of the one quest that everyone knows of but if you somehow find out if it is truly a world drop, I would LOVE to know, because not only is that cool but is the Carrot BoP when you get the quest item? So that means possible two Carrots? Hmm….

I thought the whole “Carrot on the Stick” thing was a joke when I first heard about it — then found out it was real. Right now, at lvl 49, I have a pair of spurs that motivate my mount a bit. (I think 4%) It’s funny when I’m following a slower mount, though, cuz I’m always stopping to let them go ahead.

Anyway. I like your blog! Very cool.
