Have you ever been stuck in Azeroth, unable to get back to Outland because your hearthstone is down, and wondered if there was a way to easily get back to Outland without having to run through the Dark Portal itself?
Well, there's a way. Even when your hearthstone is down, there's a repeatable way to activate it and send you back to your hearth point.
On our realm, we call it the "Ghetto Hearth", because it's a cheap bit of a "cheat" to get back "home.
How is it done? Simple:
Join a party, and enter into an instance, and leave the party.
Then, a few moments after you leave the party, the game will notice you're not in the same party anymore and it will put up a notification: 60 seconds and you'll be returned to your hearth point.
All you have to do is wait out the notice and it'll hearth you back!
I use guildmates for this all the time, and sometimes I see people on Trade asking for a party for Ghetto Hearth, and I generally extend an invite to help them out.

This is probably a more vell known trick, but I still find some hwo don't know it. You can stride while running to awoid getting knocked of the mount, and stride left and right fast to run away from mobs.
I've done this a few times -- but always on accident! I love the idea of it becoming a formalized way of doing things.
Our guild had a foot race the other day from Stonetalon Mtn. to Ironforge, and since we're on the Horde side, getting to Ironforge was a bit tricky. Someone in the guild mentioned that there was a point in the region right next to Ironforge where you can die and get resurrected at the cemetery in Ironforge. I didn't try this trick, but it sounded like a nice way to travel. :)
The one I tend to use after I use the stone to port to shat (and lets say I need to check the auction house in Org but need to comeback)is basically logging into a few Battlegrounds, quickly port to the place I need to be and use the BG as my way back to Shat.
This is totally dependent on the queue times but it works for quick in and out trips and you dont need other people to help you.
Another good side is that it works across the map in other places, I even used it to port same level-bracket players to shat by just grouping with them and logging in the BG as a group. Once you come back, you'll be in shat (provided that's the place you logged into the BG from)
This is a macro I use to have anyone be my ghetto hearth:
/invite X
/promote X
/script LeaveParty()
Sadly you do have to manually replace X each time with your victims name.
Enter an instance, any instance. Find a player, anyone. Put their name instead of X, click the macro, no matter what they do whether they accept the invite or not you will get the forced port warning after about 10s.
