Making My Way To 80, Preparing For Heroics
I'm sorry I haven't been writing - there's a lot to write about, but I haven't sat down and spent the time. Forced downtime is always good for writing, so here I am ;)
Ding, 80!
I hit level 80 six days ago, which was just under 2 weeks of real time.
I wasn't the first to 80, nor was I even the 10th to 80. In fact, the day before I hit 80, our guild had 15 people hoping to get into the very first raid of 10-man Naxxaramus.
Yes, my main character is in a bit of a "Hardcore guild", and it took some serious concentration and work to get to 80 and prepare for being able to be considered for this week's raid group.
My Method Of Leveling This Toon
For the most part, I did quests to level this toon up. For the most part, I did them solo.
Once I realized that the low-level dungeons didn't award any type of reputation, and that the drops were nice but only sidegrades from the gear I had from Burning Crusade, I did the dungeons only so I had some experience with them and had a chance to see them.
At level 78 I started getting into the 78+ dungeons more often: The Oculus, Halls of Lightning, Utgarde Pinnacle to note. I went into them so I could get the 78+ "dungeon blues" gear as a way to finally replace my level 70 epics, since the blues had better stats overall.
I Leveled As Holy
Initially, I put some points into Shadow and tried to have this Shadow/Holy cross that would still let me heal well in dungeon instances, but have some extra utility while solo'ing.
I found that I wasn't all that interested in learning how to best use the Shadow skills, so I just went back to a pretty balanced Holy/Disc mix and Smited, Shadow Word: Pain, and Shadow Word: Death'd my way through everything, for the most part. Yes, I saw some pure DPS classes come alongside me and blast through two or three things to my one, but my quests didn't take a huge amount of time just the same.
Now, at level 80, I'm a deep Holy build, with Circle of Healing and Divine Guardian as part of my skillset.
My First Faction Focus
Once I realized the first few instances awarded no faction reputation points at all, I wondered about how Heroics would work in WoTLK.
In Burning Crusade, one needed to get to Honored with various factions in order to buy a key to gain entry to the Heroic version of the dungeons once you hit level cap. In WoTLK, one just needs to hit level 80, and with no extra effort one is able to enter into Heroics.
But, faction reputation is important, because at various reputation levels, Quartermasters offer recipes and Glyphs and gear goodies that a serious player wishes to obtain.
For example, The Wyrmrest Accord offers a helm enchant at Revered which is good for Priest Healers: [Arcanum of Blissful Mending].
But how does one gain reputation with these guys in order to reach Revered?
Stay tuned, I'll be posting that information soon :)

Gratz! That's just so awesome ... you are fast!
80? Already? Can I say that I hate you and you not take it to mean... ok so I probably do hate you for beating me by leaps and bounds..
Grats on 80! Mcgoo is just dinging 74 prolly tonight, my other high level toon is just 71.
Regarding gear.. I was fairly well equipped and I have already found some subtle upgrades.. I am sacrificing stamina for spellpower now but not in vast amounts. I had a lot of PvP gear that was super high stamina, so far that has lasted the longest, as it is a subtle compromise to loose 10 spellpower for 20 stamina.. But my FSW set has all been replaced now, I lost a lot of stamina from the gemming, but again I gained about 80 spellpower.
You must play a lot more than me... shamefully I have a lack of free time which has kept me from seeing mcgoo be the first lock in my guild to hit 80... but that's life eh? Ha ha ha.. enjoy!
Hey , I was wondering what kinda of spell power you had when yout hit 80 and what kind do you think is a good amout to start raiding naxx with my guilds in naxx right now but im the only priest in the guild O.o so I need to get goen on some gear and expericane
thanks, Emme , exodar
Gratzy, and nice post.
I had the same question on how to get the reputation for Wyrmrest Accord - so I posted my research at my blog under a post titled:
"Dragon Mount – Wyrmrest Accord…continued!!"
Basically do the Drake Hunt daily, the Defending Wyrmrest Temple and the hardest daily I have found - ACES HIGH!
All are for Wyrmrest Reputation!
Excellent information about those Wyrmrest reputation dailies - I think I did the Defending Wyrmrest Temple one once then decided not to go back to it ;) Of course, now that I'm in a group taking on Malygos I kind of regret not having practiced earlier, but I guess that just means there's no time like the present.
I didn't even find Aces High until we were gathering to take on Malygos the first time... perhaps I'll go there and try it out now that I've had some Occulus and Malygos practice, and go from there!
At about level 74ish I did some math. On average a question would give me 1% experience to level, which means you would have to on average do 100 quests to level. I then did a dungeon, Violet Hold and GunDrak and they gave me 10% (2 bubbles). So upon figuring this, you could either do 100 quests or 10 dungeon runs to level.
This held true most in part of leveling, GunDrak on average would give me 8 to 10 percent depending on how many 80s at level 79, which Utgarde Pinnacle gave me 18 to 20 percent depending on level 80s in the group.
Awesome information there!
I never really paid close attention, but I certainly know that even the group quests at 73/74 don't really give very much experience in terms of bubbles (which are what we measure by too)... but zoom through an instance and a 1/3 of a level is increased without even noticing it.
