Northrend Daily Cooking Quests: Quick and Cheap
As a player, I'm not an avid "Daily"-do'er.
Yes, in Burning Crusade, I did the Isle of Quel'danas dailies on my Priest to get those fine gem cuts, but I only did the Ogri'la dailies on the rarest of occasions and when I was incredibly bored and in the area already through herbing.
In Wrath of the Lich King, I have yet to finish my Frenzyheart and Oracle quest lines on my Priest (who got to 80 on Dec 6/08 or so) even though I know there are pets at the end... and I was lucky enough to avoid the Sons of Hodir rep grind for my Shoulder enchant.
But there are always a small sub-set of Daily quests that I will do - not for the World of Warcraft gold, but for the reputation rewards at high rep levels, or immediate reward that could potentially come from the Daily itself.
Getting The Chef Title
My Priest is vying for the title of "Chef" in-game, having attained others such as "Merrymaker", "the Hallowed", and "Champion of the Frozen Wastes" since the release of Wrath of the Lich King.
Unfortunately, I didn't pay close attention to the recipes required for the Northrend Cooking Master sub-achievement required for the title, and a few weeks ago I blew about 12 or 15 Dalaran Cooking Awards on a mess of spices that I still have half of (my raiding foods are well taken care of on the Priest). Now that I know that I have to buy out most if not all of the current recipes that are only purchasable with 3+ Dalaran Cooking Awards, I'm buying the specific recipes as I can get them, and savoring the days of multiple cooking awards by design or by luck.
Why ELSE Would Someone Do The Daily Cooking?
Truth be told, I do the Daily Cooking quest on all three of my characters that are 70 and over. Not because all three want to be a "Chef", however.
My Hunter is coming up to the Heroics and entry-level Raiding ranks these days, so my Priest's pre-Naxx time has me flying up and down the Dragonspine Tributary fishing up Dragonfin Angelfish which can be combined with Northern Spices to form Blackened Dragonfin, which buffs Agility and Stamina. It takes two fish and one spice to make one meal result, so 40 fish for a full stack of Agility buff food.
And of course, the Northern Spices aren't purchasable with gold from a vendor. You can buy them in the Auction House, but I can guarantee they'll be incredibly expensive. The only cheap and reliable way to get Northern Spices is to get 2-4 of them at a time from the Spice Bag awarded at the end of the Daily Cooking Quest, and from a special vendor who trades 1 Dalaran Cooking Award for 10 Northern Spices.
(this is where experienced raiders do the math and go "oh, I'd better get on that then", cuz this will end up costing them a lot of world of warcraft gold to keep themselves stocked)
That's not to say all of your food needs to be cooked with the Northern Spices - I use consumables that take no spices or other ingredients to cook them up when the main ingredient (say, lots of fish) is around, and use those consumables during wipe-fests or when playing with more casually-focused friends.
Plus of course I'm sure some readers will agree, the cheap buff foods are a great upgrade for a player who historically has used no buff foods at all!
Where To Start Your Cooking Daily
The back kitchen-like room of the Horde Inn in Dalaran has a blue exclamation denoting a daily quest for players above 350 Cooking.
It also has a level requirement of level 65, so while your level 35 toons can get into regular Northrend recipes no problem, getting those Dalaran Cooking Awards to purchase the higher recipes is impossible for quite a while.
