What Is Your Favorite "Brew Of The Month"?
Note: this was written after the 2008 Brewfest. 2009 Brewfest Coren Direbrew and his loot have been upgraded to level 80.
Back in October was the World Event "Brewfest" on World of Warcraft. For us Hordies, most of the action took place south of Orgrimmar, near where the Northrend-bound Zeppelin Tower was erected in preparation for the launch of WoTLK.
Why there? Probably because it's a good central location for the Horde, as everyone eventually makes their way to Orgrimmar ;)
How To Know When Brewfest Is On
It's easy to find Brewfest when it's about, because of all the action taking place on the road from Orgrimmar to Razor Hill, and if you're there at the right time, all the commotion of the Dark Iron Dwarves as they attack the Brewfest festivities in an attempt to destroy the kegs.
Be sure to take advantage of the free drinks, but watch out for the lowbies drinking too much beer, as they have a tendency to get sick!
(Lowbies: Be sure to drink too much beer!)
Brewfest Quests, Brewfest Achievements and the Brewfest Mounts
Both Brewfest 2007 and Brewfest 2008 had all sorts of fun activities for players of all level ranges, and some great level 70 gear for casual players who weren't already decked out in raid epics:
- Ram Racing
Including the Brewfest quests of "Now This Is Ram Racing" and "There And Back Again" - Ride a Brewfest mount, even if you're level one! - Seasonal "Brewfest Boss", Coren Direbrew
This fine gentleman drops level 70 epic gear, including trinkets that rival Heroic Badge Rewards at 70, and of course, the Brewfest Ram and Brewfest Kodo! - Non-combat companion, the Wolpertinger
For all you pet-collectors out there!
There's more available, of course, like the Brewfest Pony Keg which has a 30 minute cooldown and supplies alcoholic beverages for your friends and guildmates all year round once you've received enough Brewfest tickets to buy it :)
And I feel I should also mention that each of these quests are a great way to boost your characters further towards the Ambassador title - each quest gives generic reputation that is applied to every major city in your faction.
Brewfest "Brew Of The Month Club"
Despite all of the cool things you can do and achieve during the Brewfest celebrations, the one Brewfest Achievement that keeps on giving, year round, is a membership to the Brew of the Month Club.If you're a member of the Brewfest Brew of the Month Club, you get a free sample of a unique alcoholic beverage once a month, and can go and purchase more of the same beverage throughout the month.
Once the month has passed, you can no longer purchase "old" Brew of the Month drinks, and any you would have stocked up in your inventory will disappear within 14 days and no longer be available.
Samples Of The Brew of the Month Club Drinks
Websites like WoWWiki and WoWHead keep accurate and complete lists of the Brew of the Month Club drinks, so you can always go and check out what records they have, but I took pictures of some of the ones I laughed at or was confused about, and am sharing them with you!
First, there's the Lord of Frost's Private Label which was available during the month of December, and is featured above.
Its "special effect" occurs randomly like with the other Brew of the Month drinks, and this one turns the drinker into an Ice Block similar to that of a Mage for 30 seconds, making the drinker invulnerable to attack for a short period of time. Seems like it would be useful to save your behind in PvP!
And then there's the Aromatic Honey Brew which is a spring-time beer which was available during the month of March 2009. This beer seems less useful in my opinion, because when the brew procs, it sends you into a fear-like tizzy for a few seconds: You run around madly trying to escape from the Bees that are chasing you, vying for your beer.
Doesn't seem like something you'd want to happen in the middle of PvP or an instance, or anything!
April 2009 Brew of the Month - Slow Fall Ability??
I happened to be online when April 1, 2009 rolled around, and was thus able to head to Orgrimmar to pick up the new Brew of the Month right away.
One of my Social Guild friends reminded me of it because he was hanging out in Orgrimmar, trying to figure out "what that sound" was - and it turned out it was the sound of people throwing the empty bottles at people, and smashing them on their heads.
Which, of course, is a fun raid activity while loot is being handed out after a kill, as well as something fun to do in your local Auction House ;)
He hopped onto a toon that could go buy a 24 pack of the booze from the Brew of the Month Club reseller, and got there before I arrived. He mentioned that people around had bubbles coming out of their mouths, and when he drank a bunch of the drink, he got a 5 minute buff called "Bloated".
"Maybe it's some kind of slow fall?" he speculated.
Shrimproll to the challenge. If there's Slow Fall capability on this month's Brew of the Month Club brew, I'll know for sure, let my friends know, and post all about it. If it doesn't work, I've got Levitate to save a repair bill.I zipped to Orgrimmar, picked up a "two-four" (as they call them in the small town I grew up in) and hearthed back to Dalaran. Ventured up to the Landing, drank the booze until I got the buff, mounted up (confirmed the buff was still there), and headed out.
Yes, I know I could have tested it in Orgrimmar just as easily, but this was a lot more fun.
I flew over Icecrown and then dismounted, mid-air. The sights were beautiful, the air was clear, and it was exhilerating!
I cast Levitate before I could hit the ground with a SPLAT - I fell like a stone.
Then, I right-clicked the Bloated buff to remove it, and ... well, you should check it out on your own if you're able to. Beside here is a picture of the result, at any rate...
