A Gamer Grrl's WoW Blog, Videos and Guides – Oh My!

To That Alliance Rogue I Don't Really Know…

Dear Anonymous Alliance Rogue,

I've been Horde all my player life, save for a few times here and there that I went to your so-called "light side" just for a change of pace. So truthfully, I can't say I "know" you at all.

What I do know is that we, Horde and Alliance, are at war.

We're enemies to the point where we do not share a common verbal language, and the only way we can communicate to one another is to use specific body language (in game, we call them "emotes") that Blizzard decides is "okay" for use to use towards one another.

Yet for the past few years, we've shared the same main cities, and existed in peace there - largely because of the fact the Shattrath and Dalaran are "sanctuary" cities that do not allow any type of PvP action.

What I Really Think Of Alliance Players

Some of you stink. You're mean competitive jerks who have too much saliva to spread around.

Hey! Stop Killing My Auctioneer!

Hey! Stop Killing My Auctioneer!

But then there's you, a sneaky Alliance Rogue who recently made his way into Undercity far enough to get to the Auctioneers.

You chose the Auctioneer I was standing at, and played with him a little bit by sapping him and leaving him stand sapped for a bit before you actually killed him. My poor, poor Auctioneer Cain.

There I am, standing on my Level One bank toon all decked out in Tuxedo pieces, with no Auctioneer to do my work with any longer. I turn towards you, Alliance Rogue, and bravely /cry on your shoulder, before I run off to the next Auctioneer to continue my scan and posting.

Shockingly, but pleasingly, you showed great honor, Alliance Rogue! You went off in another direction to continue killing guards and Auctioneers and left my new, very nearby, Auctioneer alone!

Yay! Thank you anonymous Alliance Rogue for not purposely targetting all of the Auctioneers I went to, just because I made tear stains on your clothes. I appreciate that you were able to get that far into UC tho!

Tell Me About Your Positive Cross-Faction Experiences

I know, I know, they don't happen as often as the bad experiences, but I'd love to hear about some good experiences you've had when interacting with folks of the opposite faction.

Especially if it came in a spot where you both could have engaged in battle if you wanted, but neither did.

  1. Once upon a time, a few years ago, I was playing my mage, Leota. (Yes, the same one I'm playing now.) She was in Arathi Highlands, and was pure fire. She had to kill fire elementals that were in between her and somewhere she needed for a quest. And as they were immune to fire, it was slow and she was failing miserably.

In comes a night elf warrior with about 10 levels on me. He stops in front of me.

    I /cry.
    He /pondered.
    I /point at the elementals. I did a bitty scorch on a critter nearby. I /sighed.
    He /pondered.
    I /shrugged.

And he proceeded to clear out the elementals for me! I /thanked him and he /bowed.

Quite possibly the best cross faction experience I had.

  2. I've had probably as many positive interactions with Hordees as negative ones. While there is a BE rogue on our server who lives for nothing more than killing SW auctioneers that I'd like to thrash (I can only dream about it since I'm a squishy healer), I prefer to remember that really nice undead warlock in Ymirheim when we were both doing our kill 30 Vrykul-guys daily quest. No one else was around, so we took turns doing the first tag on a mob, and the other would step in and help finish them off. He must have had a head start because it became clear he was done, so rather than hold him up, I thanked him and goodbye'd him so he could go on with his day. I do have his name recorded, since after I was done, I hopped to my BE pally and wrote him a nice thank you note and mailed it... I just dont remember it.

And to all those really nice hordees who took turns killing the named quest mobs in the first weeks of Lich King, thanks, guys, you made the game a better place to be.

To that utterly cool female orc warrior who let us all bunny-ear her for Noblegarden, and even clicked off the buffs so more could get it done.... I /thanked her and she saluted me in return... even to that orc shaman who was biting people outside the Alliance inn in Dal for no apparent reason... I /tickled her and she laughed and we proceeded to have a bit of fun. :)

And most especially to the undead rogue in Wintergrasp fishing not far from me... Thanks for not ganking me, you could have done it easily, Alliance holding the zone or not. :)

  3. I was on my lvl 18 pally in Azure Watch, happily turning in a quest... or trying to, when I saw that my quest giver was dead and a horde moonkin was busy killing everything else. So I started emoting /point @ quest giver, /cry, /dance and all that... and he answered back comforting me, dancing and so on. He was so fun that after 5 minutes of that I made a lvl 1 on Horde-side and chatted to him - he was just bored and he promised he's only kill guards, not the trainers or quest givers :D I also asked if he'd let me attack him without killing me and he agreed, so I logged back, went into roar! mode and hit him. Once, because he had Thorns and it took 80% of my HP. He just laughed :P

  4. I was leveling my hunter to 70 in netherstorm on a pvp server. A tauren druid about 4 levels lower than me was stealthed nearby (track hidden ftw). I pulled a much larger group than I intended, and the horde started snaring me as I was trying to kite. I sicced my large red gorilla on him, and started gaining distance. Once I was far enough away and the mobs that were on me had passed close enough to him to have agro, I feigned death and put my pet on passive.

Best part- the horde followed me around for 3 hours after this trying to find ways to bother me, even though he started this whole thing.

    Alliance (me): 15. Horde: 0

  5. Ahh, the struggles between Alliance and Horde and just getting along. So let's start off by saying that I have played Alliance my whole WoW experience, save for the times that my server might have been down or just trying out a few different things here and there.

So not knowing a whole lot, here is what I think of the Horde...first it's so true that people from the alliance can be competitive and jerks and stink..BUT that's not to say that the Horde is any different. We both have our share of players that are the exact same. That aside from the fact, what I really think is after playing to lvl 70 and doing lots of battlegrounds, I've become VERY fond of how well the horde groups together, or they communicate. I'm not sure if it's because the alliance look like they are kind or gentle peaceful race and that's why more of the younger people tend to play them..but it feels like anytime i am to get into a battleground..it's littered with all little kids not listening, going off doing their own thing, and then you hit the horde smack in the middle, packed together in groups going everywhere together..there is no beating that! I think the ratio was usually like 8/10 wins for the horde or something..really makes things frustrating to play against that's for sure.

As for some positive encounters with the horde, well as you said they are few and far between but I do recall this one time while trying to help a friend complete the Ring of Blood quest in Nagrand, a group of horde came by and rather than stand around and watch or bother us..they helped to kill off the enemy..then they took their turn with the boss and we helped them, back and forth it went like that until both my group and the horde had finished the entire quest line.

So yeah both sides can be really helpful and at the same time very distracting but it was a great moment when we both teamed up and were able to work side by side to defeat and complete similar missions, instead of one group continually accepting the missions to finish first.

  6. In the Ungoro Crater me and my Priest playing partner were escorting a small creature back to Marshall's Refuge. Along the way we managed to get the attention of several Tar Lurkers and Tar Lords. Just as we couldn't keep on running away from the 6 or so monsters after us an Alliance Druid ran by and blasted them all with Moonfire. They died and the Alliance player left us alone. Thank you Night Elf.

  7. Wow! These are some great stories :) Thank you so much for sharing!

  8. I do some 2-boxing, and was on my Alliance Hunter in Winterspring and my Horde priest in Booty Bay. I saw this Draenei eyeing my hordie and then he killed him! So ran back and while I did, whispered him to please not kill the horde priest again as he was doing some banking for me. Watching him spin around looking for me was in itself hilarious, then the 'where are you?' conversation.

He apologized and told me he only had killed him as he wanted to see if he could escape the guards and now felt like a piece of @#@ - I laughed and he stood guard the rest of the time. I sent him a Horde pet as a thank you.

Another time a lovely gnome and I team killed through STV - it was nice for my SP that solo killing was taking some time on the naga.

  9. I remember a night elf hunter several levels below me in STV when I was levelling my warrior. Together we did the quest that requires you to kill 3 npcs in 3 boats. Of course, we had to wait for respawns and kill everything twice so that we would both get credit for it. There were one or two mistakes along the way, when the wrong person tagged the mob and we had to wait for a third time, and I accidently killed him once... but he came back and I apologised, then we continued questing together!

    Mumma Bear’s last blog post..OOM!

  10. I'm one of those softies out there, running around /patting and /smiling to all allies I see. Not good for the image of a member of the Forsaken, but I never care much. Leveling up my mage, I've had what seems to be countless encounters with alliance kids, some more understanding than others. Thinking back, I really can't praise Blizz enough for all the emotes in the game.

I remember running around as a little scared frost mage back in STV, crying every time a mob pack decided to look my way. All of a sudden, I met a human pala. I was prepared to weep some more, but realized he had nothing evil and bad on his mind. For just about one hour, he let me tag mobs, for him then to kill, helping me own Mr. Nesignwary's quests. Sometimes there's good in this world. And I luff it.

Consolea’s last blog post..Om nom nom

  11. Once upon a time me and a member of the Horde (I'm alliance) were waiting at the Naxxramas summoning stone together. We danced, we laughed, we had a great time.

After 5 minutes he mind controlled me off the edge to my death. The end.

My impressions from your faction, Horde, has not been well.

  12. I have actually had many good cross faction experiences.

One that sticks out was when I was leveling in the Tundra, I accidentally aggro'd 8 mobs. I managed to kill 2, but I was in the red. A gnome mage came up behind me, and killed the rest. I thanked him, he bowed.

Once I even helped a rogue. He was gonna get owned by elites in SMV. I frost nova'd the mob, he ran back and bandaged. He later made a horde toon just to thank me. I thought that was awesome.

  13. Actually I've had both good and bad experiences with alliance players, but 90% have been good so far.

The best had to be when my troll hunter was out in the Tundra fishing next to the walrus people's place and I happened to see a pretty little level 70 NE huntress make an awful pull and was getting the crap beat out of her.

I sent my cat after the mobs on her and ended up killing the 5 that she pulled in just a few seconds (I'm MM btw) and she survived with 10% HP left. Afterwards she bowed, hugged me and even gave me a kiss for saving her! Kinda gave me warm troll fuzzies inside that day!

  14. Actually i had a few good moments too, and i regret to be on ally side as i love the horde ( i only join ally because of friends damn it :P ). But... As a matter of fact i'm playing on a PVP server so gankery is on a daily basis.

But for one let's face it. We are enemies. We don't live together we don't fight together we don't die together. WE do on occasions if there are enemies far more greater then us but we still are enemies. Although by lore we should be friends by now and the horde should not be our enemies but the Forsaken are... But never the less...

Horde should be merciless killing machines that eat babies alive while the Ally should be a proud gathering of good people but we aren't. For now all i can feel is that horde are a good bunch of fighting orcs and smoke sniffing trolls and Allys are merciless idiots who only wage war because they are bored or for power.

I don't like this. But on the server if a horde comes along and kills me i'm fine with that. I choose this style because it's life like. If the enemy comes around he will kill me and that's fine by me. It makes the game more interesting. And i will kill everything i can too.

That said. I don't like corpse camps and jerk who deliberately seek out lower levels and kills them. That is not okey.

I hope you get my point :) Still i don't kill lower levels than me and i almost every time don't bother them or go to city's and kill quest givers etc...

  15. One time I was escorting the defias traitor to deadmines. A horde rogue followed me, helped kill all the defias in the way then, just as he was about to enter the building and I was about to complete the quest, she killed him. /cry.
I restarted the quest a few minutes later, she followed me again, killing the defias along the way. We got near to the entrance; I /beg; /cry; she smiled and let him go. I /cheer(ed). Not sure if she did me a favour or not!
Really enjoy your blogs btw. Thank you!

  16. Wow!! Great Post! I myself am an alliance girl...I have ventured into the Horde world a few times.

I have had quite a few good experiences with the other faction, and some not so good. But, all in all it's a game, and we can't help that some people are just mean...LOL

I hope you continue to have positive experiences over the negative ones...who knows...maybe one day we might meet up...

    Until then....

    Kitty’s last blog post..Cat and her cat…LOL

  17. Good timing... just last week I was on my lvl 24 BE Mage while a lvl 30 Human Warrior was "attacking" Ratchet. He left all the players alone but could see he requested duals and everyone would turn him down. He got to me... I /cry 'd... but still accepted... got essentially nowhere fighting him for about 20 seconds and then he let me earn my victory (and dualicious achievement). Thanks!

  18. I play an alliance rogue and I love having horde encounters. Sometimes I lie in wait for horde like any good rogue would. But sometimes Im just traveling along when I encounter them. My favorite part is the first 5 to 10 seconds when everyone is trying to figure out who if anyone will attack first. I have had numerous enounters with horde who were much higher level than me and just started emoting and dancing with me and just having a good time. I even had one guy who created an alliiance toon just to chat with me a while. But alas, at the end of the day, I'm an incurable rogue, and the blood lust is upon me; I just cant help my insatiable desire to slit horde throats :-)

  19. More often than not I find myself at the end of a Horde thrashing. I came into the game not believing my friends reports of vile hatred that has sprung between these two groups of people. Like Rodney King, I wonder "Can't we all just get along?"

I can't remember all the times that I have received cross faction help. But for all those times thanks and /sorry for the judgment that often times got dropped to late in the fight and ended up on the Horde warrior who was helping me.

  20. Actually, I think this might have been me, I about that same date headed into UC and killed multiple horde and the auctioneer. If that was on blackrock US than that was me getting the achieve for killing 5 horde players in each of their own towns. It was hard to find flagged people so I attack anyone I could find.
