Mage Joins Into The Battle For Undercity Event
But finally, my third toon to 80 - my Mage - did enough of the right quests in Dragonblight to get to join in and see the Battle for Undercity event.
How Come Alliance And Horde Could Suddenly Talk?
That's my first question after coming through that Event session.
You see, the Event itself starts with a cut scene (you know, one of those damned cool movie events that fire up unexpectedly and you just sit back and watch - or hit escape to cancel it, I'd suppose) in Dragonblight, where the Alliance and Horde forces band together to battle against Vyrkul's and Forsaken-like creatures.
Ultimately, after tearing his minions to pieces in a combined Horde/Alliance effort, they face The Lich King himself, only to be interrupted by Varimathrus who normally exists in the bowels of Undercity, but has now risen up with his Forsaken army and taken it over.
It's all very cool, of course, but how come they all talk the same language all of a sudden, with no translators??
Once the cut scene ends, you're able to re-watch it by activating an object that is nearby, just in case you weren't ready for it and had your sound off, for example.
From there, however, the quest line continues and has you go to Undercity itself to meet Thrall and Lady Sylvanas in order to begin the Battle For Undercity.
It's like the Death Knight starting area ending event in terms of starting up, too - once you start the quest with Thrall outside Undercity you have to wait for 5 minutes to give an opportunity for others to join in on the same battle before the event actually begins.
Once it begins, the battles are truly epic, and I'm sure there's lots of opportunity to die, so try to stay behind Thrall and Lady Sylvanas, okay?
Epic Battles Don't Require Death
One thing I'd already learned about these Epic Battles in Wrath of the Lich King is that, well, they don't really need me.
Sure, it's fun to engage and see those big numbers when I battle, but it's also cool to sit back and watch the battle and enjoy what the Blizzard programmers and developers and graphic designers put together for us all to enjoy.
At one point I had a guildmate try to convince me that if I didn't participate we wouldn't win, but I just snickered, knowing full well I was in a pre-programmed event within which there were no changes to the script. It went as it went, and I just followed along.
The event itself was very well done, and a lot of fun to participate in, although it did require a bit of commitment to get it all overwith so you could get back to a "normal" Undercity that had Auctioneers and Bankers and all of those convenient things.
I think, also, if I had gone to Thunder Bluff at the time I would have found it was also being overrun and affected by the same event, but I'm not sure.
Perhaps I'll have to get to this event on one of my other 80s that never found it, and do some testing!

It is fun on the Alliance side too, but it all takes place in Undercity, no matter what race. For alliance it starts in SW but then the battle is actually in the Undercity sewers.
Dragonsys’s last blog post..The Horde and a cow…
Yes, that was a very cool quest/event. I did not realize there was a chain of events as I did this with my only 80. Another cool part was that Orgrimmar was entirely empty of all players and most vendors. Those NPC's which are walking around still were but with no info or wares to sell... spooky/erie/cool. Logged-out, came back that night... same thing. Oddly, entered the battle at UC alone (nobody came by during the wait)... you're right... lots of cool action. Thanks for the article.
I play alliance and I was once in a raid on ogrimmar with someone that had only done part of that chain. He was in the raid but when we got to oggrimmar he couldn't see any of us or the horde. It was all phased. I really like that quest, its the only time I've run ragefire chasm. :)
