Do You Feel Guilty Ditching An LFG PUG?

With the upgrade of the Dungeon Tool for regular 5-player instances, increasing the pool of potential PUGmates you'll be assigned to because of the cross-realm battlegroups being included, I'd love to hear from everyone else your opinion about ditching PUG parties with little or no warning.

Fact: PUG Ditchers Used To Be More Annoying Than They Are Today

Not to say that I think people should feel free to ditch groups they got into and have progressed part way through the instance with, but I definitely think with the cross-realm LFG, there's a lot more flexibility than there used to be.

It used to KILL a group when the Tank or Healer would leave, especially when it comes to Heroics and having already completed one of the bosses in the instance. DPS has always been easier to replace, but there have been times where that wasn't possible either, so the loss of a DPS in the group killed the party, too.

But now any role can be replaced rather quickly and easily with just a little bit of patience.

Do You Commit To Stay For The Whole Instance?

I was listening to a podcast the other day (unfortunately I don't remember which one) and the hosts were talking about the new Dungeon Tool and how great it was, and about the types of parties they had been assigned to in terms of class balance and ultimate ability to quickly complete an instance.

One of the podcasters spoke strongly about his opinion regarding the quality of player who will leave a dungeon instance in the middle. He went so far as to say that if you could not finish an instance, then don't start it, because you're "screwing" the other four people in your group if you leave.

What do you think? Is it really a big deal to ditch PUGs these days?

And do you feel GUILTY when you leave, even if you know they'll likely find a replacement quickly?

  1. It rarely happens, but when I leave a group, they deserve it (assholes, ninjas), and I secretly hope they have to wait a long time ;)

  2. I give everyone one or two trash pulls to know if they are worth staying, especially when I inspect them and I see their gear does not reach as high as mine. Not to say that gear is everything, but sometimes is an indicator. So after a few pulls I'll know if I am staying or not.

If I leave, it was my decision, why would I feel guilty?

And yes, I am the tank.

  3. I've only left a group once and that was this past weekend. I've been taking a break from tanking and queuing as DPS with my Paladin. She's dual spec; Prot and Retribution. There was two other paladins in the group. Prot was our tank, Ret was along with his buddy (same server same guild.) Our tank was doing great but the other Paladin would go off and pull stuff for no reason, I saved his butt a few times.

The tank finally got tired of it and politely told him to stop it. He couldn't handle it. I have no idea how he was specced since he was losing health fast. His DPS was lower than the tree if that tells you anything.

Anyway his buddy (Tree) told the tank, "I'll save him before I save you, so why don't you just let him do what he wants because I'm sure as hell not going to heal you over him. The tank promptly dropped group, The delusional Paladin went into another mob which he could not handle to save his life and. I left group too. I'm with you in that I do find fail PUGs entertaining, and I laugh at some of the things I have seen but... that just annoyed the heck out of me. I got tired of saving that other Paladins butt too. My Paladin has been stacking strength, and I do pull mobs constantly when I'm soloing just to see how much I can handle so I knew I could handle those mobs. Pro tip, if you cannot tank it don't pull it, and heals quit sticking up for your crazy friend. ;)

With their attitude I would not be surprised if they make it to a lot of people's ignore list. I know they made mine.

I've meant to post about that PUG and include their names, but I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to do it. Oh by the way that PUG was still entertaining and those two did a lot to make me laugh. I just wasn't laughing with them.

  4. when I join an instance, I join it with an intention of finishing it. however, I've stopped feeling guilty about leaving the instance in a middle. Because for me to leave a group, it has to be very unpleasant. maybe someone is being a jerk. maybe someone is being incredibly inept and ignores any and all advice that people try to give them. maybe people are creating a situation where your assigned role becomes incredibly stressful (think dpsers who pull for tanks, tanks who pull too fast, healers who are not healing, etc). when you are playing a game to relax, it makes no sense to stick around unnecessary stress.

  5. I wont leave a group because some one is struggling, I'll stay till we can compete it or the rest of the party gives up. I will leave (and not feel bad about it) if dps start pulling or a non-healer or non-tank needs for a healing or tanking drop without asking the group first. I will request a kick from group of that person and if the kick fails I leave. It sucks for the rest of the party that plays fair, que time for dps can be as long as 30 min. a little less for healers. Que time for a tank is around 1 min. Look at it from the tanks point of view, I ran VH over 20 times today on my 75th level tankadin for a shield drop. The shield dropped one time and a Death Knight dps walked away with it.

  6. @Battleshy Death Knight DPS who... can't... use... a shield? Musta been a Warrior DPS, I don't think DK's can even roll 'need' on shield blues, but yah, I hear ya :( Good thing tanks get in quick, but it's still a lot of hassel when someone is a turd!
