If you're new to World of Warcraft, or new to "partying up" with other players to take on dungeons and other difficult content, there are some unwritten rules you'd be best to be familiar with.

Considering WoW has been out of Beta and into Official release since December 2004, there are a lot of players who expect that party mates will already know the basic party looting rules when joining even the lowest level Pick-up Group (PuG) heading into a dungeon. Inexperienced players may find themselves left behind, frustrated, or outright ejected from the group as a result.

Don't let it happen to you!

Here's some entries dedicated to the education of Party Newbies everywhere, and these rules should take care of you right up until your 50's and gain you accolades of performance from any levelling guild you join:

Unwritten Rules to Party Loot Sharing

Part 2, Basic Looting Rules (commonly used in Pick-up Groups with strangers)

Part 3, Intermediate Looting Rules (generally used in groups with trusted friends or guildmates, not in Pick-up Groups with strangers)

If you're new to running instances in groups, here's some class-specific information that might help get you started in terms of knowing what your role is in a party.

Remember, accomplishing things within a party of one to four other players requires a different play style than when you're playing alone, or 'solo'. Within the best teams, everyone has a role and knows what it is. Knowledge, experience and team play is what makes you a sought-after party mate.

Note! These are just suggestions. Your actual talent build is up to you. Good players agree that it's the player that makes the character perform well, not the class or talent build itself. Flexibility is awesome when wielded correctly!
