Where To Get: Eye Of The Sea

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in Adventures In Outland, wealthonwarcraft

FISHING QUEST!

Check out what I got this morning as a reward for doing the daily fishing quest:

Eye of the Sea - Gem from Daily Fishing Quest

Eye of the Sea - +15 stamina, unique-equipped, Bind on Equip - this thing should be able to be sold on the Auction House!

The closest gem in the AH right now is a rare/blue gem with +12 stamina, and this Fishing Daily quest reward gem is the same as one of the epic/purple gems from the challenging 10-man raid instance Zul’Aman!

I can’t even find information on wowecon.com about the value of this gem yet, it’s so brand-spanking new.

I wonder if I’ll ever get that same reward on the same toon for the fishing daily, or if it’s a “get it once, that’s it bud!” setup?

I’ll be sure to let you know!

When To Buy Equipment From Vendors

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in Adventures In Azeroth

As a general rule, buying equipment from vendors is a waste of money.

But, as with any general rule, there are exceptions to the rule, and those exceptions can be used to make money or save time by help your lowbie toon advance more quickly at very low levels, getting to where you can hit instances or blow past your level 10 class quest.

Exception #1 - Vendor Equipment That Makes You Money

There are a few pieces of equipment that vendors around the World of Warcraft sell which can be bought and resold in the Auction House for more than their vendor price, or used as a way to get your own toon some cheap “green” gear.

For example, in Ratchet (a town both Horde and Alliance can enter), there’s a vendor who sells a small variety of equipment in the mid-to-high-teens level range which are both Limited Sell and Uncommon/Green in rarity.

In The Sepulcher, a Horde village that the Undead/Forsaken are sent to around level 10-12, there is a vendor who sells a couple of pairs of Uncommon/Green boots which are also Limited Sell and in the mid-teens range. One of these boots has pretty decent agility on it for its level and tends to sell quite well.

So, watch the vendors, even though you don’t buy equipment from them very often for your own use - there’s money to be made from the things they sell!

Exception #2 - Vendor Equipment Strategies To Save You Time

Another exception to the rule comes into play when you decide you’d like to have a “family” of toons instead of just working on one and only one to advance through the levels.

White equipment is normally low quality with no stats on it (ie: no +int, +agi, +sta) and very little armor, and it’s available in Cloth, Leather, Mail and Plate varieties if you look around on the game long enough. Its main benefit, however, is that it does not soulbind, and can thus be shared betweeen all of your toons or even shared with friends.

Why would you want to share White equipment amongst your toons or friends?

Well, because you’d enchant the heck out of the White equipment pieces and use the equipment set on your different toons to zoom them from 1 to about 12 or 15 before they have to consider getting better equipment again.

Stick a +100 health on a chestpiece below level 5, and a couple of +int or +agi or +sta enchants on other pieces and tell me your newbie isn’t going to crank through everything in their newbie area without a problem…

And you can keep the equipment, tucking it away for the next lowbie that you start up!

Any Other Suggestions I’ve Missed?

Hey, if you’re reading this and thinking “wait, you missed THIS great thing/reason”, then please feel free to leave me a note!

Yes, yes, I know, I start big.

When a whole bunch of things have been overhauled, I bring my now-68 mage into Orgrimmar, clear my inventory up a bit, and head into Ragefire Chasm to see the “blue loot” the bosses drop for my very own. (and maybe get some equipment for my new lvl 12 Paladin)

My Experience - Overview

  • Every mob dropped more than 40c each
  • The first green drop was within the first few mobs of the instance door on multiple runs and was lvl 9-10
  • All of the Vendor Trash that dropped was worth over 60c each, and there was more Trash
  • The equipment seemed higher level, but hard to tell - I seem to remember Mystic Belt only dropping in Wailing Caverns before, but it dropped here for sure.
  • Some equipment now has +to damage, healing, crit, etc much like the Outlands gear, instead of just having +stats
  • The blues that drop are of the same name the boss drops used to be, just they’ve been upgraded in quality so they now qualify as “Blue”. Very nice stuff for the low-teens level.

Patch 2.3 Increases Amount of Trash Dropped In Dungeons

I ran through the dungeon twice because it’s fast, and the first time through I did the “standard inventory clear” at the bank before heading in. “Standard” in this case was backed up by the past few weeks of doing RFC AOE runs for equipment, cash, linen and all that jazz for my new pack of healer lowbies, but “standard” turned out to be wrong…

AOE Farming For Cash And Lowbie Equipment

The first run through, I wasn’ even to Hungerer when my inventory filled up. For the second run I cleared out all but absolute bare essentials in my backpack (and what’s that small thing, 12 slots?? 14?) and at the end of the instance, I was packed absolutely full. Patch 2.3 has certainly increased the amount of trash dropped in this dungeon, and I’d assume that goes for all the old-world Azeroth and Eastern Kingdoms instances.

Loot Tally, Cash Tally

The first time through I ended up with more Greens (15) than the second time through (8), but both times, both Jergosh the Invoker and Tag the Hungerer dropped blue gear, and both times I came out with about 1g50s of profits from corpse loots, vendor trash, and white equipment trash. (this is vs the 65c I was getting pre-patch 2.3)

Player Quality Of Rare Drops

Decide for yourself!

Robe of Evocation
Crystalline Cuffs
Cursed Felblade
Subterranean Cape
Chanting Blade
Cavedweller Bracers

(hey cool, this was a partial test to see if whatever my wordpress Addon uses for doing the WoW Item link needed to be updated or not - nope! yay!)
