At level 64 my Mage dropped skinning (which was at 375) and picked up Tailoring as a way to get a leg up on getting the best equipment for my Mage when the time comes to pick up things like Primal Nethers in the dungeon runs I’m doing.

Farming Linen Cloth

As a Troll was my first character and I didn’t actively play anything other than one character until that one hit 60 (pre-expansion), Orgrimmar is the city that I’m most used to, so whenever it comes time to pick up some training, Orgrimmar is where I default to.

AOE Farming of Ragefire Chasm / RFC

So, I went into The Drag and picked up Tailoring, and then I headed into the Cleft of Shadows and jumped into Ragefire Chasm, aka RFC - a dungeon aimed for level 12-17 Hordies (you CAN get in at level 8 but I wouldn’t recommend trying that in a Pick Up Group of strangers).

I farmed through RFC twice for the Linen Cloth and lowbie green equipment drops (you see, ever the alt-o-holic, I have a new lowbie - currently level 10 druid) and after those two smashingly-fun AOE-fest farm-throughs, I had enough linen to turn into enough bolts to make enough Tailoring gear that I could consider progressing on to Wool Cloth very shortly.

Farming Linen Cloth and Wool Cloth

Deadmines was the next dungeon that I farmed through with my Mage - I have never gone through the instance as an Alliance player (my highest Alliance toon made it to 20 but never instanced), but since one of my guildmates got to mid-40s with an Alliance toon as his first he was able to pass on the information that Deadmines (sometimes called Van Cleef so it’s not confused with Dire Maul when referred to in short form) is a GREAT place to farm for both Linen Cloth and Wool Cloth.

Deadmines isn’t as easy to AOE group up in some spots because while all the Defias guys (Defias Conjurer, Defias Blackguard, Defias Bodyguard, Defias Digger, Defias Evoker, Defias Henchmen, etc) were easy enough to round up (and I resisted anything the casters threw at me so that wasn’t a big deal), the Goblin Woodcarvers later on threw axes at me and knocked me down mid-gather. Ah well, they all died for their treachery.

Mage AOE Farming of Deadmines / Van Cleef dungeon

My favorite place to gather everyone up and hose them all down with my Blizzard spell was near the end, as I was approaching the final boss Van Cleef - out on the docks with the plethora of Pirates and their companion Parrots. From what I remember, none of them were casters so it was super easy to gather them up and mow them down, and the death sounds of the little parrots was great! ;) ;)

Farming Silk Cloth

When it comes to Silk, there’s one place that I think of - Scarlet Monestary. I’ve actually nicknamed that “The Silk Factory” and generally refer to it that way when someone saw my 64 Mage in Scarlet Monestary and wondered what was going on.

At the level of Silk in Tailoring, things start to slow down quite a bit. Where I only needed 2 runs each of RFC and VC, I probably did 4 runs of the Scarlet Monestary Armory and 3 of the Scarlet Monestary Cathedral in order to get enough Silk Cloth to progress past it into things that required Mageweave Cloth.

I brought a guildmate friend through with me for at least two of the Scarlet Monestary runs to help spread the benefit around - burning off rest bonus on his lowbie toon and getting some equipment upgrades while handing over all of the Wool Cloth, Silk Cloth and Mageweave Cloth that dropped from the mobs we were killing.

Mageweave and Runecloth were levels where I “got by with a little help from my friends”, for sure - but I don’t have time to continue this entry right now so I’ll write more later!

With all that AOE grinding on skinnable mobs in Ferelas and humanoids in Tanaris, my Mage’s rest bonus was used up rather quickly, I noticed.

So, I mailed all of the skins I’d obtained over to my Rogue Leatherworker, then pulled up into a local Inn and prepared for a 9-or-so day stay (which is approximately how long it takes to get to 100% rest bonus).

Rogue Awakens

With my Mage safely stowed and earning maximum rest bonus, I hopped over to my Rogue Leatherworker to see what I could work on there, since that toon had been receiving small shipments of leathers steadily over the past couple of weeks while she lay otherwise dormant.

At one point I had some extra Fadeleaf kicking around, not being used for Roguely things, so I had sent it through my Mage Alchemist who had in turn created Shadow Oil and sent it back to the Rogue Leatherworker. This enabled my Leatherworker to create a couple of Dusky Leather Armor. I sent one of those tunics over to my Hunter Enchanter who put a +100 health enchant on it as an extra bonus!

She’s currently at 185 Leatherworking, which is right in line with her level, pretty much, when it comes to how much more advancing room she has before she hits the level restricted max of 225 Leatherworking prior to level 35 player level.

Speaking of player level, once I finished the bit of Leatherworking and training I had from the materials mailed to me, I headed out into the field on my own. It didn’t take long to go from 27 to 29, using up 60% of this toon’s rest bonus in one evening, just working on “green” quests.

I had some 28 Blood Elf Pally whispering me a couple of times yesterday, wondering if I’d like to join an RFK (Razorfen Kraul) group, but it was always right when I was about to log out for a few hours. I’ve added him to my friends list, maybe we can go some time soon. As a DPS class toon, I feel relaxed at the possibility of being in a bad group, because at least I shouldn’t get yelled at very often, myself.

Besides, these last two levels, I put points into Deadly Tricks, the “I can sap you from across the room” talent. That’s gotta be good for something.

Warrior Bashes On Thru

My Warrior hit 58 today after teaming up with a 62 Shaman guildmate in Winterspring for mutual benefit: Besides enjoying partying together, I was there to grind out quests and she was there for the Rugged Leather to improve her Leatherworking.

It sure is nice to party up with a hybrid capable of tossing out a heal periodically, especially with me as a (fury) Warrior!

After I trained my new skills and allocated my talent point, my Guildmate logged off and I returned to Felwood to continue grinding through on “green” quests I hadn’t finished there, including Furlbog ones.

Why “green”? Why not Yellow or Orange? Well… tackling “yellow” and “orange” quests may be more experience from the mobs in the quests, but when playing solo, there’s also a lot more downtime and a lot more risk of unexpected additional mobs causing death, so I’ve generally stuck to the “green” ones when soloing. I’m here to relax and generally not pay full attention, so Green works for me ;)

Outlands Awaits

I notice somewhere along the line that I picked up a quest that tells me to talk to some dude in Thrallmar… So yes, while I know I can pass through the Outlands portal now, I’m going to stay in Azeroth for a little while longer, until I get to 60 if I’m soloing, for sure. No big rush to get into the Outlands, I’ll get there soon enough.

While I’m in Azeroth for the last couple levels, I’m working on my Blacksmithing more attentively - I’m at 294 and it looks like I need to get to 320 before I get a recipe that uses Fel Iron. Is Thorium available in the Outlands, or is that only in Azeroth? I’m going to have to set myself on Mining Duty soon… ’round and ’round Un’Goro?
