My Hunter was my very first toon ever created on World of Warcraft, and bears a name I’ve used online for years in various capacities and has become my online pen name. Many people on the game still call me “Val” no matter what toon I’m on. Valdesta was born during the Winter’s Veil Festival in World of Warcraft, late in the year of 2005.

My hunter is the one featured fishing on this blog - with a guildmate warlock buddy who has way better gear than I do on my Hunter :)

Before the expansion pack came out, she hit 60 at the end of May 2006. By the time the expansion hit, I knew this Hunter wasn’t my priority, so it took her until September 2007 to hit 70 having done ZERO outland dungeons and only a small number of Outland group quests. She soloed from 60 to 70, never running out of quests but completely not worrying about “reputation grinding”.

This toon was never really destined for much, but gets some time here and there and has acheived some useful milestones.

Reputation Standings - Outland

I was originally going to list the non-standard recipes I have for Enchanting, but I really don’t have many that are worth mentioning, and the process was looking more tedious than I wanted to deal with for a blog post.

So, instead, you get a summary of my Reputation levels:

Current Gearing

Gear is what I expect will start to change on this toon more than anything else - if there’s a second Karazhan group that goes through in a week and my Mage is already tied up in a RaidID, then I go along with Valdesta instead.

Head Earthwarden's Coif
Neck Expedition Pendant
Shoulder Beastmaw Pauldrons
Back Crystalweave Cape
Chest Felstalker Breastplate
Wrist Bracers of Maliciousness
Hands Gloves of Quickening
Waist Felstalker Belt
Legs Beast Lord Leggings
Feet Outland Striders
Ring #1 Conquerer's Band
Ring #2 Violet Signet
Trinket #1 Commander's Badge
Trinket #2 Riding Crop
Melee Weapon(s) Sonic Spear
Ranged Weapon Emberhawk Crossbow
Ammunition Blackflight Arrow

Goals For The Future Of This Toon

This toon is still mainly a “farming” toon. When I don’t have much time to actually play, I may log into this toon to fly around on my Netherdrake and pick herbs for a little while. I much prefer getting my own materials for the endless stream of Super Mana Potions I go through on my Mage during raid nights!

That being said, I don’t expect to do a lot with her because I’ll use my Mage as a priority in raids and Heroics, and I’m advancing my Priest and Rogue to get to level cap before the expansion hits… whenver that is!

A Troll? The Queen of the Ogres?

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in Adventures In Outland

… as long as I don’t have to take an Ogre husband and bear his Ogre children, I guess I can tolerate being the Queen of the Ogres…

After I finished dealing with Barthamus in Lower City when I reached Exalted with Netherwing and selected my Reins of the Veridian Netherwing Drake, I kinda sat there for a second, on my new mount, wondering “what next”.

One thing about being level 70, however, is that there’s ALWAYS something going on, and scarily enough, there’s so much demand for help that complete strangers are willing to take in HUNTERS into their parties to get their stuff done.

Doesn’t everyone hate Hunters by level 70? ;) ;)

Neutral with Ogri’la - Lucky Girl!

Someone I’d never heard of before sent an LFG (looking for group) request over the General line for killing some elite guy very close to Shattrath, and since I didn’t know what else to do, I whispered and offered to help and was presented with a party invite.

When I joined there were four of us - Tank, and 3 DPS, just looking for a healer. The healer arrived shortly afterwards and as it turned out, all of these guys were from the same guild - I was the only outsider!

Summoning a Demon in Blade’s Edge

We went through a number of quests rather quickly in the next hour or so… so quickly that while I got some screenshots later on, initially I didn’t fully realize what we were working on and each time I thought it was the “last one” but it kept on turning into more.

Right at the start it became HUGELY obvious that I, as the outsider, was significantly behind in gearing from the rest of the group. From the start I was behind the TANK in damage dealt on the damage meters, and my KLH threat rating was pathetic, too. Fortunately, I was able to laugh at it and the rest of the team members also laughed and were extremely helpful in terms of making sure I got the right quests and got them completed as we went through it all.

Some time in the middle of our fight, someone asked when the Gruul’s Lair run was for their guild that night… yes, yes, I was VERY VERY undergeared. Valdesta doesn’t even have any gems in her few socketted items, nevermind purples from Karazhan.

By the end, I was crowned the Queen of the Ogres and found myself Neutral with Ogri’la.

I poked around outside Ogri’la camp site for a bit but then decided it was too advanced for what I wanted to be doing, that I should be giving some love to my other toons that had been neglected while I was working on the Netherwing Quest line.

It wasn’t until a full week later that I realized I could go and freely pick Felweed in the Bloodmaul Ravine in Blade’s Edge because I was now neutral with all of those Ogres! What a treat of a surprise that was.

If I were to send a “thank you” stack of potions to each of these various Gruul’s Lair guys (mage, warrior, resto shaman and rogue), what would you suggest?

Ogre Party in Blade’s Edge!

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in Adventures In Outland

When I hit level 68 or 69 or so, my guildmate with 5 level 70 characters took me on a little ride through Blade’s Edge Mountains from Thunderlord Stronghold where I already had a Flight Point, through to The Stormspire in Netherstorm, hitting a total of 4 flight points that I didn’t have, between Blade’s Edge and Netherstorm.

In the spirit of Paying It Forward (help, that is), I lead a couple of guildmates that were coming up behind me on the same path, taking them from Thunderlord Stronghold to The Stormspire in Netherstorm.

The first trip was uneventful - I lead a fellow hunter through the path and went on my way.

Bladespire Supplicant crowd in Blade’s Edge

The second trip had an unexpected Ogre party in the middle of it, and myself and my guildmate hung around with the Partying Ogres for a while (well, Bladespire Supplicants) as about 50 of them drank and cheered and had a jolly good time without worrying a bit about our presence.

Standing In The Middle of the Bladespire Supplicants

At first, I was going to try to go around them, but my guildmate noticed that she couldn’t target any of the Bladespire Supplicants, so I ran into the middle of them as an easy way to test (death is a mere minor inconvenience on this game) and found out that my guildmate was indeed correct and the Supplicants didn’t care about our presence at all.

While my guildmate and myself had no idea what we had just run into, I’ve since done some research and see that this crowd has something to do with a group of related level 70 quests: Grulloc Has Two Skulls, Maggoc’s Treasure Chest and Even Gronn Have Standards. We still have no idea whether it was us who despawned the guys or not - my guildmate found a keg that they were dancing around, and it had an actionable cog on it, but when she tried to get a drink from the keg, everyone disappeared.

We stood there for a bit, relaying our adventure to guildmates on Ventrilo with us, and then continued on our way!
