Once an hour during Hallow’s End, each of your characters can talk to an Innkeeper and do a “trick or treat” option that appears along with the normal Innkeeper options of buying goods or setting this Inn as your home.

When the Trick or Treat function is selected, something random happens to your player - either you’re awarded a Treat Bag that has something special inside, or you’re buffed with a “costume” buff and your appearance is changed for an hour of play time.

So far, the cosumes I’ve seen have included:

Skeleton Costume - like that from Noggenfogger Elixir, lasts for 60 minutes, is a shapeshifter form that one cannot mount up while in. Has a /dance related to it and no battle restrictions, so you can play and cast normally.

Ghost Costume - turns you humanoid and faded, like the ghosts in Eastern Plaguelands for Pamela’s Doll quests. Has a /dance related to it and is a form that you can fight in without problem - I haven’t tested the mount capabilities yet.

Trick! - turns you into a small creature of some sort (red imp, grey borer, black cat) for 30 seconds, but you are not able to attack or /dance or mount or catch the wyvern or do anything other than run around and try to gather attention before you morph back to yourself.

Bat Costume - cute little bat that lasts for 60 minutes - instead of running around, you soar and fly around - at ground level, as if you were walking or unable to hover more than 2 feet off the ground. Unfortunately there’s no /dance, and you can’t mount nor ride the wyvern or cast any spells in this form.

Wisp Costume - remember when it was rumored that the Wisp would be a new class type for Burning Crusade? Remember how we scratched our heads and wondered what our equipment would look like on our Wisp toon? Well, turns out that was just a big joke, but the Wisp lives on in this 60 minute costume. It doesn’t allow for any special /dance, nor can you mount up or take the wyvern or cast any spells while in this form.

Pirate Costume - there seem to be a few different “looks” to the 60 minute Pirate costume - different hair colors, clothing colors and the likes, but they all are human and have the same dance and they all mount up just fine (and ride the wyvern, too) and you can cast and do battle with them no problem.

Has anyone seen any (from the Innkeeper) I’ve missed?

It’s these types of events that having a full family of toons to play is great for. Once an hour I can hop around between all of my different toons and Trick or Treat from the Innkeepers and after a few hours I have a pretty decent idea of all of the rewards that come from that process.

Here’s the types I’ve gotten so far - all are only applicable to people you’re in a party with (or on yourself) and each wand is soulbound and comes with 5 charges:

Hallowed Wand - Leper Gnome
Hallowed Wand - Pirate
Hallowed Wand - Ninja
Hallowed Wand - Bat
Hallowed Wand - Random

About the Hour Timer Restricting Trick or Treating

There’s a timer on the “Trick or Treat” option with the Innkeeper that prevents you from seeing the Trick or Treat option more than once every 60 minutes.

I’m happy to say that while your toon is logged out, the hour timer to prevent you from Trick or Treating again within that timeframe DOES count down so you do not need to be playing your character to use up the timer. Logging in once an hour would be perfectly fine.

About the Hour Timer on Costumes

Unlike the timer for Trick or Treating, this one doesn’t run out while you’re logged out. So, if you get a costume and you want to save it for as long as possible, log out quickly after you get the costume and next time you log in, you’ll have nearly a full hour of costume (or, until you die, which removes the costume as well).

Innkeeper Costume Overrides Wand Costume

Since I had an opportunity to test it, I can relay the information that if you are already in Leper Gnome format from the Hallowed Wand when you talk to the Innkeeper, if he applies a costume or a “Trick”, it will fade out Leper Gnome and take on the new format without any complaint.

Hallows End has arrived on World of Warcraft, following the closing off of the somewhat neutered Brewfest (which I never really did do much with again after coming home from my week away).

I’ve already seen a Flying Broom up for sale, since it’s not Soulbound, but it works only in Outlands, requires level 70 and 225 Riding, and has only one charge, so you’d better fly around a lot to make it worthwhile!

Soulbound rewards I’ve seen (confirmed as aquired this year, not last) include things that come from the Innkeepers once an hour when you ask “Trick Or Treat!” and they (on occasion) give you a Treat Bag: Flimsy Female Undead Mask, Flimsy Female Gnome Mask, Flimsy Female Troll Mask, Flimsy Male Tauren Mask, Lollipop, Hallowed Wand - Ninja, Hallowed Wand - Pirate, Hallowed Wand - Leper Gnome, Candy Corn, and some kind of wand that can be used to turn oneself or others into things like Leper Gnomes.

Guildmates have reported seeing players on a flying broom of sorts in Orgrimmar, plus seeing people with a “pumpkinhead helmet”, but I’m not sure if they’re from this year or last.

How To Get Started

Starting Hallows End 2007 quests, Commoners (Forsaken, Tauren, etc)

In major cities there are a pair of Commoners hanging around near the bank / Auction House / mailbox areas , saying things like “Waaah! I don’t want to die! I want to live forever! It’s not fair!” (and then laughing) and “We should attend the next burning of the Wickerman” and “For the Alliance!” but otherwise just standing around silent with exclamation marks over their head.

Hallow’s End 2007, Razor Hill, Masked Orphan Matron

For us Hordies, they send you to either Silvermoon City or Razor Hill to find the Masked Orphan Matron in order to start the quests that come along with Hallows End. I am much more familiar with Razor Hill, having started and played a lot of time as a Troll, so I chose to do my work there.

Hallows End 2007 - Fire Training Quest Details

The first quest the Masked Orphan Matron gives out is called Fire Training, which requires the player to go west outside of Razor Hill, acquire a Water Bucket from a big bucket by the road, and then progress north towards the fires and throw 5 buckets of water on the fire.

Fun Before Firefighting (before work, I must play)

Before I was able to head out to fight my first fire, a player behind me tossed a Water Bucket at me, and I caught it. So, I turned around, found the bucket in my inventory and tossed it back to him, then thanked him and waved and headed on my way. I guess he was in some sort of costume (while of course I’m just using a Savory Deviate Delight to change my appearance) - maybe from the wand?

Fire Fighting training quest - practice for defending Razor Hill

Fire Training - Hallows End 2007

After tossing the bucket back to the stranger and heading on my way, I headed out the west exit of Razor Hill and ran across the obvious source of water for fighting the fires for this quest. I filled my Water Bucket by getting close to the big bucket and activating the cog that appeared (quest cog). Only one bucket can be obtained, otherwise you get the “you can’t carry any more of these” message.

Hallows End 2007 - Fire Training - Putting Out fires

The actual process of putting out the fires is super easy - take your Water Bucket and put it on your action bar for quick access, look around yourself from the filling station and you’ll see the fires you need to put out quite easily. When you get within range (and the fires won’t burn you), you’re given a casting zone circle to aim with - center it on the fire, and toss in the bucket!

Repeat this 5 times and you’ve completed the quest and can return to the Masked Orphan Matron in Razor Hill

Fire Training Quest Reward

Fire Training Quest Reward - Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treat

Here’s the quest reward screen you get after completing the quest Fire Training - some simple rewards, plus what is not listed is that you get 75 reputation with Orgrimmar for having done it in Razor Hill, I guess.

Hallows End 2007 - Fire Training Quest reward buff Bigger… and Oranger… Hallows End Candy

I ate my Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treat right away, of course, to see what it did. Turns out that it applied a 20 minute buff that enhanced my size and turned me an orangy color!

Gnome Lepers, Headless Horseman, Putting Out The Fires…

Stay tuned for more entries about the Hallow’s End festivities and quest lines. Part two will show you some screenshots of Gnome Lepers, the Headless Horseman and defending Razor Hill from the fires he sets when he attacks.
