The Headless Horseman is a big part of the Hallow’s End festivities at various levels.

For a level 70 player, there is an opportunity to take on the Headless Horseman himself in a dungeon group that goes into Scarlet Monestary’s Graveyard, with rewards I haven’t had a chance to see much about yet. Expect to see information about that in a part two of this titled entry.

First Exposure To Headless Horseman

The first time a Horde player is exposed to the Headless Horseman is either in Razor Hill in Durotar or Falconwing Square in Silvermoon, after completing the Fire Training quest mentioned in my previous entry. These quests can be done by any level of player and there are no chances of dying during the quest.

The Headless Horseman attacks these lowbie villages every 4 hours with the following Boss shout:

Shade of the Horseman Yells: Prepare yourselves, the bells have tolled! Shelter your weak, your young and your old! Each of you shall pay the final sum. Cry for mercy, the reckoning has come!

… and then he sets flame to all the buildings, at which point the players are to douse the flames with water from the Water Buckets that are provided by the water vats on the ground.

QUEST NOTE! You can help put out the fires without having picked up the related quest, so be sure to pick up the quest from the Masked Orphan Matron as you get your first few Water Bucket going during the attack. The quest is not available until the attack begins.

It’s possible that Fire Training needs to be completed first in order to take part in the Headless Horseman attack and get credit from the quest, but I haven’t tested that to be sure.

How Do I Know If It’s Working?

It was unclear to me while doing it whether I was truly being successful in completing this quest, even though I got the bucket, targeted the flames and it seemed that my water was the one that sizzled on the fire and eventually put that particular part of it out. So, while I didn’t really know if I was being successful or not, I just continued on, getting buckets and pouring them on the fires. There were about 25 of us running around at the time so competition wasn’t huge.

At the end of the Headless Horseman’s attack on Razor Hill, I discovered that I had indeed helped put out the fires and had indeed completed the quest and gotten credit for it.

It was when I turned in that quest and got 3 more Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treat (with a 14 day timer on it) that I learned there was a level 70 component to the activities, and since I had done this work on my 62, I couldn’t pick it up!

So, now I’ve brought my level 70 Hunter across to Razor Hill and she sits in the Inn, awaiting my activation of her around the time the Headless Horseman attacks the village again in an hour.

Stay tuned for more entries on the topic!

Hallows End has arrived on World of Warcraft, following the closing off of the somewhat neutered Brewfest (which I never really did do much with again after coming home from my week away).

I’ve already seen a Flying Broom up for sale, since it’s not Soulbound, but it works only in Outlands, requires level 70 and 225 Riding, and has only one charge, so you’d better fly around a lot to make it worthwhile!

Soulbound rewards I’ve seen (confirmed as aquired this year, not last) include things that come from the Innkeepers once an hour when you ask “Trick Or Treat!” and they (on occasion) give you a Treat Bag: Flimsy Female Undead Mask, Flimsy Female Gnome Mask, Flimsy Female Troll Mask, Flimsy Male Tauren Mask, Lollipop, Hallowed Wand - Ninja, Hallowed Wand - Pirate, Hallowed Wand - Leper Gnome, Candy Corn, and some kind of wand that can be used to turn oneself or others into things like Leper Gnomes.

Guildmates have reported seeing players on a flying broom of sorts in Orgrimmar, plus seeing people with a “pumpkinhead helmet”, but I’m not sure if they’re from this year or last.

Interested in getting in on the Hallow’s End fun for 2007 and getting some of the unique rewards to show off later? Read on…

How To Get Started

Starting Hallows End 2007 quests, Commoners (Forsaken, Tauren, etc)

In major cities there are a pair of Commoners hanging around near the bank / Auction House / mailbox areas , saying things like “Waaah! I don’t want to die! I want to live forever! It’s not fair!” (and then laughing) and “We should attend the next burning of the Wickerman” and “For the Alliance!” but otherwise just standing around silent with exclamation marks over their head.

Hallow’s End 2007, Razor Hill, Masked Orphan Matron

For us Hordies, they send you to either Silvermoon City or Razor Hill to find the Masked Orphan Matron in order to start the quests that come along with Hallows End. I am much more familiar with Razor Hill, having started and played a lot of time as a Troll, so I chose to do my work there.

Hallows End 2007 - Fire Training Quest Details

The first quest the Masked Orphan Matron gives out is called Fire Training, which requires the player to go west outside of Razor Hill, acquire a Water Bucket from a big bucket by the road, and then progress north towards the fires and throw 5 buckets of water on the fire.

Fun Before Firefighting (before work, I must play)

Before I was able to head out to fight my first fire, a player behind me tossed a Water Bucket at me, and I caught it. So, I turned around, found the bucket in my inventory and tossed it back to him, then thanked him and waved and headed on my way. I guess he was in some sort of costume (while of course I’m just using a Savory Deviate Delight to change my appearance) - maybe from the wand?

Fire Fighting training quest - practice for defending Razor Hill

Fire Training - Hallows End 2007

After tossing the bucket back to the stranger and heading on my way, I headed out the west exit of Razor Hill and ran across the obvious source of water for fighting the fires for this quest. I filled my Water Bucket by getting close to the big bucket and activating the cog that appeared (quest cog). Only one bucket can be obtained, otherwise you get the “you can’t carry any more of these” message.

Hallows End 2007 - Fire Training - Putting Out fires

The actual process of putting out the fires is super easy - take your Water Bucket and put it on your action bar for quick access, look around yourself from the filling station and you’ll see the fires you need to put out quite easily. When you get within range (and the fires won’t burn you), you’re given a casting zone circle to aim with - center it on the fire, and toss in the bucket!

Repeat this 5 times and you’ve completed the quest and can return to the Masked Orphan Matron in Razor Hill

Fire Training Quest Reward

Fire Training Quest Reward - Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treat

Here’s the quest reward screen you get after completing the quest Fire Training - some simple rewards, plus what is not listed is that you get 75 reputation with Orgrimmar for having done it in Razor Hill, I guess.

Hallows End 2007 - Fire Training Quest reward buff Bigger… and Oranger… Hallows End Candy

I ate my Hallow’s End Pumpkin Treat right away, of course, to see what it did. Turns out that it applied a 20 minute buff that enhanced my size and turned me an orangy color!

Gnome Lepers, Headless Horseman, Putting Out The Fires…

Stay tuned for more entries about the Hallow’s End festivities and quest lines. Part two will show you some screenshots of Gnome Lepers, the Headless Horseman and defending Razor Hill from the fires he sets when he attacks.

Repeatable Brewfest Quests

Posted by: WoWGrrl    in Adventures In Azeroth

I started the Brewfest quests this morning and have been fortunate enough to be able to spend the day fiddling around with what was going on, while also discussing things with a couple of guildmates who were also able to be around.

After getting the initial Racing Ram quests with the Barrel delivery overwith (written about in the previous entry), I was able to return to Ram Master Ray one last time for the day and talk to him, but this time he doesn’t have an exclamation mark over his head to indicate there’s a quest. When you talk to him, however, he has an option to choose: “Do you still need some help moving kegs from the crash site near Razor Hill?”.

If you choose that option, you’re mounted up on a Ram once again and given three minutes to do your deliveries. Each time you make a successful delivery you receive two Brewfest Prize Tickets, plus time is added on to your “time left on mount” timer and you can continue on. When your “time left on mount” expires, you’re dismounted and cannot do the delivery quest again until the next day.

Theoretically, if you’re really good at this delivery game, you can keep going and going and going on your Racing Ram, having enough time added to your total each time to keep you going for another round. If you’ve got a few different toons to practice this quest, it would probably pay off on your main toon who is vying for, say, the Swift Racing Ram mount.

Pink Elekks On Parade

This quest is given by Glodrak Huntsniper, who is just inside the Brewfest Festival area, on the left, between tents, surrounded by some low boxes. He also gives the quest “Catch the Wild Wolpertinger!” which is a one-time quest that gives Wolpertinger's Tabard (companion pet) as a reward.

The Pink Elekks quest seems to be repeatable at 6 hour intervals or so, from what I’ve seen [UPDATE: It's apparently a ONE-TIME quest, but I was lucky enough to get it twice] - I completed it at about 8:30 AM and found the yellow exclamation mark had returned at just before 3 PM. I’ll check again at 9.

At any rate, when you finish this quest (which involves running around to Thunder Bluff, Undercity and Silvermoon to “slay” Pink Elekks with some physical device Glodrak supplies) and turn it back in to Glodrak, you’re rewarded with 40 Brewfest Prize Tickets! Not bad, especially if it’s repeatable at 6 hour intervals.

Next up, explanation about the Dark Iron Dwarf invasion of the Festival - how to get involved, how to “slay” some dwarves, and where to turn in the marks you receive from the process. Stay tuned!
