How I love thee, Everlasting Underspore Frond.

How many times have you fed my pet? How many times have you given me free food and water for my questing? How many times have you been the only mana-restorative thing I had, when all water had been depleted in an especially heal-heavy dungeon run?

A thousand times easily, and I love you more every time I turn my attention to you and you lovingly provide.

What IS The Everlasting Underspore Frond?

In short, it’s a non-equippable quest reward from Oh, It’s On! which is a Sporeggar rep quest that you can get once you’re Neutral with them.

Once you get it, it sits in your inventory and takes up space. ;)

What’s It Do?

It produces 10 Underspore Pods which, when eaten like a Conjured Manna Biscuit, heal both mana and health at the same time - just over 4k of each.

The food itself is a fungus, I believe, and thus can be fed to pets that eat fungus foods. I had a Dragonhawk from Shadowmoon Valley for a while around 68-70 on my Hunter, and the pods were its main source of food for a while.

The Frond itself has a 12h cooldown, so if you use it regularly, you can get 20 per day.

Is It Worth The Bag Slot Space To Carry Around?

Yes. I don’t use my Underspore pods or the Frond very often, but when I do, it’s often a bit time or life-saver.

I’ve used it in dungeons where bringing 40 water wasn’t enough for the entire run because the group was highly chaotic or undergeared and required a lot of healing.

I’ve used it when pet food was a zone away and I didn’t want to spend the time traveling there and back because I was already on a limited schedule.

I’ve used it while soloing or while taking friends through dungeon instances.

I’ve saved a heck of a lot of money and time just by having that nifty little thing in my inventory for emergencies.

And, I’ve made sure to get it on every one of my toons as they go through Outland.

Do YOU have your Everlasting Underspore Frond?

I haven’t done this quest yet - I just got back from a wedding and am getting caught up.

But, I hope to tackle this today:

I’ve quoted this from WoWHead.com, it was written by Femaleshammy -Al’akir -eu server.

Full guide of “How to” (complete Ahune the Frost Lord)

-First. Go to any major city(Exodar, Darnassus, Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon City, Ironforge, Orgrimmar, Undercity or Stormwind) talk to “Earthen Ring Elder” and pick up the quest that takes you to Ashenvale(just outside Blackfathom Depths)

-Go to the camp with alot of Twilight people, kill people there untill you get a letter, use a quest item(A totem of some sort), which is provided in this quest, near one of the bonfires and summon your Shaman. Speak to him to get the next part of the quest.

-Head abit north, to the western “cap” that peaks out to the water, into a new twilight camp, use the disguises you now got in your bag, and turn into a crab, wait near some friendly NPC(They are hostile without the disguises) untill your quest is complete(hope no other player is killing the npc’s) and go to nearest bonfire, summon the shaman, deliver in.

-Head back to the guy you started this chain at, and you will now get the FUN quest. Which is one daily quests, including killing a guy near the Dark Portal, (which I’m not going further in at) and a quest that takes you to Slave Pens.

-Find a proper 5 man group, go into slave pens, deliver the quest at the lady you will see with some totems. Kill some packs of mobs into the next room and next NPC.

-ALL PARTY members go deliver, and when ready, one guy alone, will go to the ice shard, and deliver in, makes you summon the boss, abit further in, about the place where you normally would kill the “crab” looking guys, so remember to clear abit first.

-THE BOSS FIGHT-

-PHASE 1- The boss at first will have a armor that you can’t remove, that reduces damage by 90% or something like that, now you should focus on adds. All rangers, and the tank, should kill the big “ice elemental” that has a model like a earth elemental, which meleers kill the smaller water elementals. (the big guy gives a debuff to nearby players that takes 300damage per third second, and stacks untill he’s dead) This phase last for about a minute.

-PHASE 2- Now all remaining adds should be down, and the healer can get his mana back up, you won’t leave combat, but all that is left of the boss now, is “Frozen Core” which doesn’t do any damage, but you are now free to damage without any reduction.

These two Phases repeats untill the boss is down, if you are good, you can take him down on two “rounds of phases” a decent group should on 3, and if you use 4, you should be out of mana.

The boss is now down, and you will loot a chest that spawns in front of him, it gives the epic loot(caster staff, healing cloak, tanking cloak or melee cloak) along with a shard, that gives a quest, you accept this quest, turn it in to the lady not far from you, and get a tabard(you can choose between red or blue).

If there is several people in your party the long chain quest, they can also summon the boss, and you can kill him as man times as you want to, without resetting the instance.

Enjoy the Midsummer event.

Note: This entry is written for players who are in the Outland, Level 65 and above and are hoping to one day find a raiding guild. At a lower level Tailoring is useful, yes, but to a different degree and for different reasons.

I now have three toons that are above level 60: Hunter, Mage and Warrior.

My Hunter isn’t destined for great things - she’s got 300 riding and a Netherwing to flit around on but her equipment is pretty crappy and because she’s an Enchanter and an Herbalist, there’s not a lot she can do about it herself.

My Warrior has always been a Miner/Blacksmith and while I’ve pondered dropping Blacksmithing because of its cost and slow progression, I’ve kept it on and am needing Adamantite to progress the skill further but that’s not something I can easily collect as a level 61 (and I refuse to spend my cash on AH supplies when I can’t even use the equipment I’m crafting now on that toon).

My Mage was an Alchemist/Skinner since his 20’s but now is an Alchemist/Tailor because he has recently hit 65 and since he’s my “progression toon” I figured I should be getting him ready to wear some crafted gear as I hear it’s really good stuff.

Why Tailoring?

One thing I have read repeatedly on the World of Warcraft forums when guildies and guildmasters are talking about gearing up for and within Karazhan is that as it stands, there’s very little leather +spelldamage gear and thus Moonkins will be competing directly with Mages and Warlocks and Shadow Priests for cloth drops in places like Kara. Plus, since sometimes +healing is the name of the game and not +armor, a Priest may find themselves in competition with a Paladin, either for primary-role duties or off-spec gear.

Tailoring as a profession has three specialization trees that a Clothie can take up to reduce the competition on drops while improving their character and demonstrating knowledge about how progression happens faster if each individual takes responsibility for their own part in it. Unfortunately, these Tailoring recipes when crafted result in equipment that is Bind on Pickup so only the Tailor that created the item can use it.

Therefore, Mages, Warlocks and Priests are regularly recommended to help themselves in this case by taking up Tailoring and choosing a Specialization tree that works best with their personal needs:

Tailoring Specialization: Mooncloth

This is known as the “healing” specialization tree for Tailoring.

All specialization only have three epic patterns in them, so a number of other pieces will need to be picked up to complete a full set of equipment. These ones are obviously aimed towards Holy Priests - high in Intellect, Spirit and Healing, with two being socketable for further improvements:

Primal Mooncloth Shoulders

Primal Mooncloth Belt
Primal Mooncloth Robe

When having selected this specialization, this tailor now gets two Mooncloth from one transmute when making Mooncloth at a moonwell.

Tailoring Specialization: Spellfire

The Wrath of Spellfire set is the result of this specialization tree, with a focus on those who deal Fire and Arcane damage (Warlocks and Mages). All three are epic and all three are socketable for further improvements:

Spellfire Robe
Spellfire Gloves
Spellfire Belt

Spellcloth is what is used as a base component of all of these patterns, and it can be transmuted by a Tailor who is anywhere in Netherstorm, and just like the previous specialization, a transmute by a Spellfire Tailor will yield two Spellcloth instead of the regular one.

Tailoring Specialization: Shadowweave

The Shadow’s Embrace set is the one for those who dedicate themselves to using Shadow and Frost damages as their major types - Mages, Warlocks and Shadow Priests. The three epic pieces improve Intellect, Stamina and +Damage to both Frost and Shadow, plus all are socketable for further improvements:

Frozen Shadowweave Robe
Frozen Shadowweave Boots
Frozen Shadowweave Shoulders

In order to make Shadowcloth, a Tailor must travel to Shadowmoon Valley and stand on the Altar of Shadows (58,71) to transmute. Shadowweave Tailors will get 2 Shadowcloth instead of 1, and after crafting Shadowcloth, all tailors will receive a “Shadowy Fortitude” buff, which provides +25 stamina for one hour.

Tailoring Specialization Can Take Place When?

I wandered down to Lower City to where the Mana Loom was in order to make my first few Bolt of Imbued Netherweave at level 64 and found that I could pick up any of the Tailoring Specialization quests immediately at that point.

I decided to go with Shadowweave tailoring after poking around at my options and looking at the epic recipes for each specialization, but the only problem was that it wanted me to venture into a part of Shadowmoon Valley that I’d probably do a LOT better in around level 67 or 68 unless I find an escort.

Now that I’ve hit 65 and picked up Arcane Blast, however (or was that 64?) - I’m wondering if I shouldn’t consider re-spec’ing and going for the Wrath of Spellfire set. My preliminary research has shown that getting materials to make the Spellcloth might be difficult without having a Karazhan group to join, however…

So… I’ll level up to 67 before I think too much more about it. Any way I go, I’m likely going to be heading into 68+ zones to specialize, and I can’t get Primal Nethers until I’m closer to 70 nor can I wear the epic equipment until then anyway…

Stay tuned to find out what direction this (currently Frost/Arcane) Casual Mage is going to head (suggestions welcome!)
