Ventrilo
Ain't Nuthin Like The Real Thing!
Sometimes, having to type out your entire conversation is not only wearisome, but EXTREMELY time consuming during a time of low patience.
And not being able to talk to my father while we share our special father-daughter play time, simply because I can type 15 times faster than him wasn't a great thing to think about, either!
Enter Voice Chat...
Voice Chat is a great thing!
WoW even has an in-game version of Voice Chat because they recognized how much value it brings to the game.
But the in-game WoW voice chat has some severe limitations. To name just three:
- It sounds like crap!
- Each character has to be configured for custom channels
- You can't talk while you're zoning or hopping between toons! (ie: when you're most bored!)
Thus, services like Ventrilo and TeamSpeak are still very popular in covering voice chat needs.
Not only does it help raids (if used correctly), but it can connect guildmates, family and friends and keep them connected even while playing on different realms or in different games entirely.
I started using Ventrilo when some of my social guildmates started to hang out on the guild one, and when that guild one went away, I rented my own server and offered a place for my friends to hang out.
Personally, I use Nation Voice for my Vent server rental, and I've had it for nearly a year now and am very pleased with its performance, uptime and accessability by all those who needed it.
